Seventy four shades of black
Splattered seemingly with care.
And behind them, our prayers
Pierced the silent air.
Standing witness, we with eyes sewn shut
Will swear to breathe for another day
Without choice or reluctance
Because today is too late.
We are rainbows, only half as pretty
As the stars raped by night
Defiled and exiled, we will trace
With tears the day we fly.
And they with burning power are
Fueled by desperation and hate
Like we are. Who are we to judge
The judges of our fate?
And walk as we may, will we ever escape
With our sanity intact, is it too late?
And who do we pray to when the sky is black?
And where is the God we would never betray?
We won't be this, but will we eventually break?
Our jury stands silent, but we aren't blind,
A gunshot, they fall, the bridges we burn,
We see this, we scream, but only in our minds.
And now, fire has never smelled so sweet
We swear to stand witness, but who do we see?
We cower to live, die to be honored,
Who will stand witness when they come for me?
